Welcome to Prologue and Overture, as the name suggests, its the introduction to many musicals. So as such I will do my best to give you what you need to know about a chosen musical each week. That way if you ever feel like watching or listening to them but aren't sure, well you'll have a little more info on it.
So let's go ahead and get the ball rolling with
SHREK THE MUSICAL
Now you may ask yourself, of all the musicals I should start off with, why are you suggesting this one. Well simply put, it is surprisingly amazing and heartwarming.
Whereas Shrek the movie is silly and funny, Shrek the Musical manages to get you to connect with the actual human that Shrek is. That is not to say he isn't an ogre, but we see more of a person that a character. In fact while in the movie, yes there are sweet moments, in the musical, these moments are touching and worth while. You find you can connect to the troubles and emotions of the characters.
Don't get me wrong, while it goes the extra yard in emotional moments, it also is able to add all the spectacle to the funny, silly or cheesy parts, like Farquaad and the fairy tale creatures. ....Yes Dragon is included!
Going on to the music. It is a two act show with 20 of the most hilarious and heartwarming songs ever composed!... ok, I won't lie and tell you its the best show ever, one of my favorites? yes! but not the best show in existence. The music lends itself to each of the characters, Shrek having the most songs. Through the music you will learn more about all the Shrek characters, from leads, to fairy tale creatures. Although granted all musicals use the music to tell the story.
For those of you aiming to start off into musicals, Shrek the Musical is an easy going show that will rope you in..... Don't worry, we can hit the emotional turmoil shows later on!
If you want to see the show, open your Netflix, or your friends Netflix account and enjoy! Maybe you just want to listen to the soundtrack, that's also cool, search it on youtube and you won't be disappointed!
Until next week, stay mean, stay lean, but most important, stay GREEN.
